She has a flickr group for her patterns
She also has a flickr group for City Quilts
{ go join them both! }

city play

so cherri asked everyone on the blog tour to ask a few questions.  i came up with a few questions.. and one that was intended to be a joke....

1. why did you decide to adopt me?..  just kidding! {see this blog post for reference}

I'm going to answer #1.  I'll tell you right now; you can publish it or not.

I liked you from the start, when Lizzy said we were adopting you, I said "yep, perfect fit".  We take the adoption stuff seriously - not creepy, like you have to leave your folks, and come live with us seriously; but we take you into our hearts - and I did.  So there...mushy sappy stuff...you are special, and we love you!

love you,
Mom

Hey Mom... love you too!

city green

2. when did you obsession with solids begin... and do you know what triggered it?

It started at Quilt Festival in Houston one year.  There was a display of antique Amish quilts, and they were simply beautiful.  I never knew that fabric glowed, and never knew that solids were like paint.  I had just thought they were boring and flat...silly me!

city lot

3. what is your favorite part of the quilt making process?

My favorite part is the planning, and then executing, and watching the transformation of what was a thought/vision to reality.

city shops

4. what is your least favorite part of the quilt making process?

I am so dyslexic, and I have the attention span of a gnat, so I get bored really quickly, and I get sick of everything.  My biggest challenge is to persevere through the boredom, and get the project done.

city tracks

5. if you had to pick a favorite kona solid... just one... what would it be and why?

That is a really really tough question.  My life is ruled by my early years, and a love affair with my crayola crayon box.  Favorite colors then, are still favorite colors now.  If I had to pick just one it would be charcoal gray...much more interesting than plain black, and there are so many possibilities with that color.

city bank

6. what is your favorite candy?

Another very difficult question!  If I have to pick a fav, I guess it would be See's Dark Chocolate with nuts.

Loved your questions, and Cheri's answers. I never thought of solids like that before, either, even though my grandma's quilts were nearly always solids, and dark ones, too.

Hmmmm, my favorite solid color to work with?!?!? Orange is my favorite color of all time, so I will have to pick it, lime-ish green is sneaking up on it, though. I'm growing my stash by leaps and bounds because of all the great collections/colors coming out.

Thanks for being part of the tour and giving me a chance to win!

Great interview. This book looks awesome and I love seeing the different quilts on all the tour sites. My current favorite solid is kona ochre. I'm not even sure why, but it just makes me feel good when I look at it :)

Favorite solid color to work with? Let's see - I love green! - all flavors and varieties! But would have to choose Kona Olive as my fav of the moment!

Thanks for the giveaway and inspiring blog!

Great interview. It is so wonderful to her all about Cherri's process.

My favorite color would be Lagoon. Every time I use that color I picture myself at a wonderful Lagoon soaking up the sun.

MKLOWRY said...

Ack - you were adopted by the House family! So jealous! They seem so sweet and perfect!

My favorite solid to work with is Kona Ash since it's so versatile. I like Kona Snow too, but since I mostly make baby quilts, Ash is more forgiving for stains.

I enjoyed the interview; good questions and it was interesting to read her answers!

I have a hard time picking only one favorite color, but I have to choose blue in this situation! I love quilting with almost any shade of blue and my current Kona favorite is definitely Kona Lagoon.

PunkiePie (Jen) said...

Black! I haven't yet but I have an idea to create a black and brights quilt top. Just tossing the idea around at the moment but I will do it! Thanks for the chance!

Taya@TypeB said...

Oh that is a hard question. I do love Kona Coal, but blue is my favorite color and I have to say Slate is such a nice mix of blue and grey, too! Thanks for the stop on the tour - great questions!

I have such a hard time picking a favorite color because I love them all but I'm really in to purples right now (the colors in my wedding) so I'd have to say my favorite is K001-1301 Purple. No, K001-1294 Plum. Wait I like K001-134 Thistle too!

Like Cherri, I was in love with my crayola crayon box but I eventually graduated to crayola colored pencils and then to crayola markers. I still have a huge stash that I play around with every once in awhile.

Check out my blog to see all of the purples I used in my wedding and the beautiful quilt my MIL made us.

My favorite kona is snow -- I like fresh and light and this is the kona I buy in bulk. Thanks for the great interview, enjoyed reading it!

susanlr said...

Actually it would probably be brown. Not my favorite color in the non-quilt venue but I like working with brown in my quilting as it seems to blend well with so many other colors.
Thanks for the interview-I really enjoyed it.

Jorie said...

I am a bit ashamed to say I actually HAVENT worked with many solids yet, but I would love to do something with alot of black as the "background" and use it to make some bright colors POP out in the pattern!

Jen said...

Oh man, I 'd love a chance to win the book, fat quarter bundle, or the color card. They're all so yummy. Thanks for the opportunity

My favorite solid color would have to be Jade Green.

Vicki said...

My favourite Kona solid is Bahama Blue since it reminds me of tropical vacations, so nice and relaxing. Thanks for the interview and a chance to win.

krisgray said...

I like working with both white and black to provide "resting" spaces in the quilts. However, blue is my fave color.

Denise :) said...

Hmmmm...I'd have to say green. When I'm doing something of my own, it tends to be seasonal -- green fits in all of 'em! :)

No coincidence that there's a lot of greens in Cherri's quilts! :)

Stine said...

So far the only solid I've worked with is white..I KNOW...BORING! That's why I'm so excited about the city quilts blog tour. I LOVE all the quilts I've seen so far and can't wait to get started.

Great interview! I love the big bold geometric designs. My favorite Kona solid to work with would be Eggplant.

Kona Amber is my current fav! Thanks for the chance!

Thank you for a great interview! As I sit here in my office looking at a blue quilt on the wall, and thinking of the most recent little quilts I have finished, I would have to say I like working with shades of blue, however these haven't been solids. The quilt I am excited to start has a solid black background which will offset a host of salmon tones.

Béa said...

My favorite at this moment is papaya for a project but my more used is kona snow. Finger crossed .Hugs from France.

Erin M. said...

I need to buy some coal for a project, but the other colors that are bright are nice. Like grass green. Thanks for the giveaway.

Tong said...

I have been loving Cerise lately, I used in one of my recent quilts and I love how bright and cheery it is, it totally pops and brings out all the other colours!

Melaniemmacdonald said...

Thank you for the great interview! I never in a million years would have said this before seeing Cherri's designs, but now I think my favorite Kona color would be Coal or Medium Gray. I love the way it contrasts and highlights the other colors without clashing. It is so versatile and helps give the quilts a more contemporary feel.
Thanks Again!

♥Duff said...

concise, quick interview! I love charcoal gray right now because it reminds me of all the storm clouds we're having. And of course, couple it with the tones of the clear sky afterwards...

I'm new to quilting and haven't used many solids yet. Once I win the Kona Bundle I'll have my chance! Ha! Greens are my favorite and I love the the color combo in the City Bank quilt. Awesome stuff in Cherri's book!

I don't often work with solids, but have been thinking about it a lot lately. I think my two favorite Kona solids right now are Spring and Lime.

AMessWorthMaking said...

Kona Coal is my favorite solid I've worked with so far, but I'm in love with Cerise and would love to get my hands on some of the blues and greens. I'm on a self imposed fabric spending freeze though, so I just get to drool for now, unless I win!

Great post! Love the questions you asked...and the answers! That book is on my list. My favorite color is blue...teal/turquoise kind of blue...very soothing yet cheerful. Thanks for the giveaway.

The Kaufman Rayon Blends solids colors are is the fabric I like to work with the best. Rayon has been around a long time & is very versatile. Add cotton, creating the blend, & you have a sturdy fabric that drapes well & easily dyes (eg.for batiks).

trudys_person said...

Hard to pick a favourite Kona colour ... I like black because it makes everything else pop, but I'm coming around to charcoal for the same reason. I also love banana - it is the perfect yellow and works wonderfully with all my 1930s reproduction fabrics.

City Quilts is a wonderful book! I got it for my birthday ... now I need a stash of solids to start making the quilts. And I've been coveting the Kona colour card for a while - colour porn!

Thank you for the interview and giveaway!

maschmidt121 said...

I loved Cherri's answer to #1. In addition to being an amazing quilter, she sounds like such a wonderful person!

My (current) favorite Kona solid is butterscotch. I'm hoping to incorporate it into a quilt very soon because I think it'll add a really nice warmth.

grendelskin said...

Another great interview! I use a lot of white just lately, but my favorite is Schol Bus Yellow; it's so cheery!

Megan said...

That City Play quilt gets me every time! Love all those beautiful colors splashed up there. And City Green, because those colors are awesome together. My favorite color to work with? At the moment I'm loving peridot but I do love the coal as a neutral.

Heather said...

Charcoal gray just seems to work well with everything and I'm also really liking Navy Blue these days! I love the City Play quilt that is pictured! I'd love to make it, I think it would be a great picnic blanket!

Cecilia said...

I enjoyed the interview. Interesting questions and answers. My favorite Kona solid would be snow. I like to use it with the 30's reproductions. Thanks for the giveaway.

mascanlon said...

Raisin is my favorite right now, is it brown? red? black? And I have just bought a lot of all the mid to ark range greys...guess I'm loving those now too!

Kirsten and Tracy said...

I think if I had to pick one solid color, I'd have to go with black. You can put it with nearly everything and it makes other colors pop, while it sorta sits in the background.

Thanks for the chance and the great Q&A on the tour.

My favorite solid to work with is Lime, it adds spark to anything. The one I have used the most is ash though :) Cherri sounds like a kick.

Thank you for the interview and the yummy giveaway!

I think 'baby pink', because pink has always been my favorite color!

Its so hard to pick one favorite solid color.. I am in the midst of a love affair with blue-green, but am fond of medium grays, red-browns and lime greens..

Lovely questions! Great answers by Cherri!

My favourite solid colour to work with was white, but now I tend to love a kind of egg blue. It adds something special to lots of colours and prints.

Thanks for a chance to win something fabulous!

A Peppermint Penguin said...

Oh wow, and a shade card in the mix too! I have the old one, I'm convinced there all these fabulous colours on the new one and my life is imperfect without them, ha!

Thanks for the interview and the generous giveaway. Fingers crossed.

"My biggest challenge is to persevere through the boredom, and get the project done." could have been MY answer to that question!

I'm currently working on a sampler using Lagoon, Daffodil and Surf.
but my all time favorite is the PFD white - I can run that through my printer and have any color I want... sort of!

Serously, I could really use that new color card - mine is a decade or two out of date!

I'm really new to the whole solid thing -- (seeing a picture of City Lot from Market is what totally sold me on it; I just adore that quilt so much!) -- so right now, I'm loving the zany bright ones, like Schoolbus.

Charcoal? Interesting color choice by Cherri. And mother & daughter sure look alike! Another set of great questions! Thanks for the chance of winning Cherri's book or fabrics....or both??? :)

Great giveaway and I loved your interview...brief, to the point and interesting. My favorite Kona solid to work with would have to be the palest of pink...I just think it works with any color!

I'm a little crazy for yellows and I like Kona Cheddar. Cherry's designs are so captivating. I'd like her to adopt me too!

Beth said...

What a great giveaway!!! It's a bit odd because I love color, but I am going to go with Kona Snow...it makes other colors pop, and I love to embroider on it!

kdmade said...

OK, so boring but I love using white. That said, the quilts from this book are making me reconsider this!

Kimberly said...

Lovely interview. I adore the City Play quilt. I like the color natural. It's so much warmer than just white. It would be awesome to win a copy of the book. Thanks for the giveaway!

Rachel Locke said...

Wow!! Another great giveaway!! Thanks

My fave color is purple, but don't always find that translating into my quilts. So I would have to say some shade of gray. Like ash or charcoal. Ash when wanting white but knowing white would get so dirty. Charcoal when wanting something a little darker but not quite black.

Penne said...

As everyone else said, it's hard to pick one color. But pink would be my choice...I have always loved pink.

Your interview was great......my favorite quilt is City Play.........see it had pink in it. LOL

Ms. Veggie said...

Ocean blue is my favorite from the palette. I like it because it's calming and grounding.

Sarah Vanderburgh said...

I like the colour Lagoon, too. It is a blue that can be in a quilt for either gender. You can make it work in a traditional quilt or more modern. It can be a background colour or the colour you sprinkle everywhere through the quilt. Great interview. Congrats on being adopted by such an artistic family!! Thanks for the chance.

My favorite color to work with is any hue of Bluem, any shade of Blue, any tint of Blue, any hint of Blue. I really enjoyed the interview with Cherri especially the part where she talked about 'me'........" I have the attention span of a gnat, so I get bored really quickly, and I get sick of everything. My biggest challenge is to persevere through the boredom, and get the project done".

Kelly said...

I would pick any color that looks like aqua! I loved the little interview with Cherri! I have not made a quilt out of solids yet, but I always love her work!

ledamewood said...

I haven't worked with solids, I want to, but haven't done it - except as an accent or part of a quilt - but not just solids. Blue is my favorite color and that FQ bundle you have in the pic is just yummy.

Audrie said...

Loved the interview! I looove solids, but I think the one that seems to stand out is Kona Ash since I use it more than any other solid. Yup, definitely Ash :)

Great interview! My favorite solid is white and Kona snow is my favorite.

Great interview. As for a favorite solid, I've been wanting to work with Charcoal for a while, having seen it a lot elsewhere. In terms of what I actually use, white wins. And in terms of my go-to colors in all parts of my life -- a deep purply-blue (that I painted my study in but can't seem to find replicated in fabric) or aquamarine. Thanks for the giveaway!

Jenna Brand said...

Thanks for the interview and the giveaway! I love the look of slate, and I adore ash! It's a wonderful neutral that brings so much of my stash to life.

Strlady said...

I am going to have to go with Eggshell. It's not as stark as white and gives a warmer feel to the quilt. I'm not sure if I'm ready to go all solid but City Quilts does do a great job at tempting me. I had a chance to peruse the book at my local quilt shop and was very intrigued. Loved how Cherri took cityscapes and was able to interpret them into her quilt. Outstanding!

Beverly said...

My favorite color has always been blue. I love the surf blue. But I agaree with two hippos - white is the best. It makes all the other colors dance! Thanks for a chance to win. Loved your interview.

Betsy said...

Thank you for the chance to win.
I am loving the new Kona blues. They are so rich and vibrant. I would love to make the city quilt with the blue and gray sqaure fabrics with the Kona blues.

Quilt Monkey said...

Another great interview! I (sadly) haven't worked with solids much at all. I've been using a lot of white lately, but probably overall the solid I've used most is basic black. I like to look at a pattern that I want to make and visualize black in all of the places where the white/light/background is in the original. Black can really make the other colors glow.

Jenny said...

i can't get over my boring self...but right now kona snow is just it for me. i am working on color hweel quilt and that snow just works so well. i need to expand my knowledge of kona solids...i love how cherri describes solids as working with paint...i want that experience!

deserae said...

My favorite is purple, I just love how beautiful it is! :)

Tamie said...

I love how different each of the interviews are. I don't know if I can pick one favorite but I do know that a bundle of them makes me drool.

I'm really love Kona Ash right now, but I also love a good chartreuse any day.

Lime is the color of lately! It just brightens every space -- loved your interview by the way!

Cute interview!

My favourite solid colour right now is Kona Chartreuse. Why? It goes with everything. Seriously.

Joyzelle said...

I loved the interview - thanks. I think my favorite is bleached white. I love how whites lighten brighten and tie everything together but I like the barely softness of the bleached white.

Genevieve said...

Kona coal. it makes me swoon to see the effect it has on a pink or green fabric. it makes the colors sing.

Johanna said...

Now, that's easy! Lagoon. Strange enough I ordered some printed fabric the other day that was supposed to be lagoon and it turned out to be simple green. Very disappointing until my mother picked it out as her favorite :)

Favorite to work with and what I work the most with would be two different colors. I find I use white a ton in sashing and such but I love working with color so I would have to say favorite to work with is anything in pink or blue. That normally means baby quilts and I just love making them :)

I bought the baby pink because it's going to work so well with all the pink variations I bought...now the question is, which type of pattern am I going to use? there are too many choices!!

Megan said...

I use boring old Kona white on just about everything, but lately I'm walking on the wild side with Kona Bone, lol!

Andria said...

I love Kona Coal. We have taken a real liking to all sorts of grays over the last year, so when we remodel our bedroom, we are using gray!

JayTee said...

I like Kona black...it makes all colors POP!!

Kaye Prince said...

I absolutely adore white solids and use them a lot because they add such as a nice brightness!

But when it comes to using actual colours my favourites are Kona Coal and Kona Ash - I love how they are nice neutrals that work well with most prints but also add a different dimension. I do really need to start using other coloured solids - I have some but I've been a bit chicken to try them out.

Ugh...I feel like a broken record...coal, ash, and stone...can't pick one. Love them because they go with just about everything and make each fabric just that much more fabulous...what more can one ask of a fabric?:)

Rachaeldaisy said...

Great interview!! Really interesting questions. I haven't really delved into solids so I'd have to say snow is my favourite kona to use. It's such a rich warm white that shows off any colours it's used with. I'd love the chance to play with some other colours so thanks for the opportunity to win bundle and the colour chart! And the inspirational book too of course!!!

Meg said...

I am in love with Kona Ash right now! I love soft gray. I just bought some ash colored corduroy to make some pants for my little girl. I even want to paint my bedroom that color. I love how it looks mixed with yellow and pink. I am definitely a soft colors girl.

I like herb. It's not traditional like white or cream, and yet it can stand as a strong color too.

This blog tour has been so much fun! I love Kona coal...and chartreuse is always a favorite of mine. But lately, I've been wanting to do more with white. I have always been afraid to quilt with white, but I've seen so many beautiful quilts with lots of white in them. So, I think my next project will involve white!

Lagoon! It's not only fun to say (La-GOOOOOOON!!!), but brightens up just about any color combination. Woo! I've already purchased a Kona card and the City Quilts book (which is now my favorite quilt book ever!), but I'd love to win the FQ stack. Good luck, everyone!

pklaw said...

The true answer is probably white because I use so much of it but I just got over an obsession with Kona Lime used for several boys quilts and now I am in love with Kona Sage! I'm fickle that way - just can't love one color! I am really enjoying the book tour!

julia said...

I know it isn't really a color, but it's my favourite Kona Cotton anyways: white.
I love how it enhances every fabric that goes with it...
As a close second I'd name Aqua...it's such a cheerful color, it just makes me smile.
I still have to learn to use more colors; I tend to stick to a very narrow pallette (either prints or solids) - I think I'll be soon brave enough to make a 'paintbox' quilt...at least I started collecting the right fabrics for it...

Me? A Mom? said...

what a fun interview! My favorite Kona color, if by favorite you mean what I use the most, is probably Charcoal for its richness and how well it pairs with other Kona colors. That said, I love so, so many of them!!

I have a new favorite solid for each quilt I make. I love to choose the unusual shades that are just a hint away from the expected choices. Glacier blue instead of navy for example. But since it's summer, I have to say that my favorite Kona solid of the moment is Melon.

Anything blue would have to be my favorite. However, after reading Cherri's book and working with a mini City Harbor in the Poseidon color way, I'm looking at solids in a whole new light! I do love working with Kona White though.
Do we really have to have a favorite?

Tricia said...

Nice interview! Does your mom know you're out shopping for a new family?

Favorite solid = white. It's boring, I know...but I'm working on changing that!

linda said...

great interview, lots of fun!! my favorite color has to be blue. love my blue jeans, drive a blue car, but you wouldn't know it by the colors in my house. thanks for the giveaways!

Loved your interview. My favorite color is Hibiscus. I like to use it as an accent color to give some punch to a piece.

Oh my gosh, just one favorite? I am not sure I can do that. Cactus calls to me, almost lime but not quite. But that Blush Pink also knows my name..... I could go on and on.

That color card is way cool. I did not know it existed. I am going to have to get me one.

What a wonderful giveaway! Love Cherry's quilts they're awesome.
Answering the question: All Kona cotton are great to work with, but my favourite one is coal. I use to use kaffe Fassett fabrics a lot and with coal matchs perfectly .
Thanks for this chance to win :) .
Cheers,

Elena

thanks for the interview and giveaway. i love purple, snow or cream are more often used colors though. eggplant looks good too.

Cherri's quilts are the ones that inspired me to think more of solids! My favorite color is butter yellow... but I'm about to do a project with lots of Stone or Ash.... can't decide!

My favorite is probably snow... I also really like ash...but those aren't really real colors now, are they? Hold on.

Chocolate brown?

That doesn't count either.

Red is my favorite color in general... the Cardinal is my favorite Kona red. The "Ice Frappe" not only has a great name, but is also a pretty color. :)

Fun interview!

My favourite solid to work with would be turquoise. Thanks for the giveaway.

Julie said...

I love purple- it can be cool or warm. Thanks for the chance!

Coal / Charcol / Berry and White is my favourite for the moment for a modern quilt

Fran said...

Really fun questions ! Another great interview.

My favorite solid color would have to be Periwinkle Blue ( going back to my
Crayola days ) but my favorite solid
color to use in my work would be
charcoal. I agree with Cherri ...it
is very versitile but softer than black & can really make your quilt
sing !

Kristy said...

I really don't know what my favourite colour would be, I think the thing I really enjoy is how they interact with each other.

Thanks for the great post, I love the aviation quilt, I don't think I've seen it yet on the tour.

Hmmm ... I must be hungry because my faves are the celery and artichoke. I love using a soft green as a neutral, instead of the usual black, white, tan, etc.

Heather @ The Beating Hearth said...

It would have to be yellow right now. I am making my daughter the most beautiful quilt and the yellow's just striking to me.

Andi said...

It's hard to go past 'snow' as a classic versatile fabric that makes all the other colours just 'pop' off the quilt!!!

Staci said...

Fun Questions! I enjoyed this little interview a lot. Love Cherri's quilts, and love that she loves See's candy! LOL
One solid? Well, right now I'm enamored with Kona Ash. It is a lovely silver grey color. It goes with darks, brights and pastels with equal ease.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Jennifer said...

Great interview! I love the insights you got from Cherri. I am totally in love with her City Play quilt too.
It's soooo hard to pick a favorite. If I was making something for myself - which I've never done! - I'd have to pick bright pink Kona. Probably mixed in with some of the other pinks and lime-y greens

floribunda said...

great questions! I never used solids at all until very recently, and my current favorite is a dark sort of purple/maroon which makes a lovely background for just about every other color. Hoping I win...

Dusty said...

Such hard questions! (for us, I mean). Hmmm....favorite solid to work with, either black or turquoise. I know I used a Kona turquoise color on my daughter's Easter dress, but I'll be danged if I can remember which one!

crummyd said...

I would have to say Spring or lime as they would go with most everything! I am new to solid color quilts and cannot wait to try them.

WandaFish said...

I think Coal provides a cool contemporary foil and really makes bright colours pop. Thanks for the fab giveaway.

anne said...

Thank you for another great interview. I love to work with black, it makes bright colours pop.

Sylvia said...

I guess I would have to say black, since I have used solid black in a number of quilts to provide a background for the colors. Other than that I almost never use solids, although the quilt I'm currently working on does have a little bit of teal solid (the other fabrics are also teal, or blues/greens that are pretty close).

Paige said...

I love all greens. If I had to choose it would be a tie between ivy and moss. Thanks for the great interview and chance to win.

Lindsay said...

I haven't used a lot of solids yet but I've been eyeing the Kona fat quarter bundles and the color card. So I have to pick white, for now - I love how white makes so many other prints glow - but I can't wait to expand my horizons!

Carla said...

I am totally enjoying this tour. Lots of insight and to lots to learn.

Caro said...

I love, love tangerine. It's my newest favorite color. Thanks for being part of the City Quilts tour. They certainly are eye candy!

Adrienne said...

Up until recently my favourite solid was Kona Snow - boring I know but I love using it. I have recntly started using Kona Ash, and that has really changed the look of my blocks and added more warmth.

Abbybeth said...

such a fun interview!

My favorite right now has been chocolate brown .... otherwise known as Kona Espresso! I love how it can warm up a color palatte and seems to go with everything!

Anonymous said...

My current fave is Coal, but I recently saw zuchinni and I think that's edging towards the top of my list. Loved question #1! lol

Dee said...

Snow, for the versitility of framing a block and making it just pop - but not tooooooo white. Love it.

Meghan said...

I don't use a ton of solids, but I've been getting a lot of mileage out of Kona Snow. It's white without being bright and blinding, and it blends well with other shades of white. But I also love purple. I just some Kona Hibiscus to back something I'm making with my Hexagon QAL scraps.

Nova said...

Great Interview Julie :)
I love the whole mixing of solids and could stare at my colour card for hours dreaming up quilts and colour combinations....so it's very very hard, impossible even to pick just one but as a basic you can't go past Snow, I find it more flexible than White. or Coal. Or Ash, possibly Charcoal and I can't go past Chinese Red, plus blues & greens are my all time fav palette so I'd have to throw Lime and Robins Egg in too so they didn't feel left out.... see, I told you it was impossible!

Well I wouldn't have thought it was a favorite color but since I have been through two bolts of Kona Snow I have to say it is a favorite for quilting. It goes with everything. I love mixing it in with print fabric scraps and also adding it with other solids. It can add a little spark and also tie many other fabrics together.

Bellgirl said...

My favorite solid colour to use is white, which is why I'm desperately thrying to get my hands on some Kona Snow! I'm having trouble finding Kona Solids locall in Australia, so I'd love a colour chart. And I love your cushion!- I put it in a gallery on Flickr a couple of days ago- City Green is my favorite quilt from the book. bellgirlsblog [at} gmail [dot] com

I am drawn to blues like Kona Surf or Kona Lapis. I could very easily be a color addict with Kona solids :)

Karen said...

My favorite solid color to work with is white (with lots of colors mixed with it).

Ducks and Rabbits said...

Tough question - since I'm so new to sewing and quilting I haven't worked with many solids. I'll have to go with some favourites colours, which I have used in some sewing - green, teal and deep blue.

mamammelloves said...

I typically use a lot of color in my quilts, so that when I use white as sashing, it makes all the colors just pop! I love it! I have a bunch of plain white but I also have a big bolt of Kona Snow. :) Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts said...

I am really a newbie when it comes to using solids! :-o I think the only one I currently own is Kona Snow! I am trying to look outside my little box. ;-) Thanks for the great giveaway!

Great Interview and what a great viewpoint of solid colors in Quilting! I love working with the range of blue/green sea/green solids, and white to off white colors. Its really hard to pinpoint just one color that I absolutely love, because I just love them all!

Janet said...

A favorite is tough ... I love color and love the way the solids are used in the City Quilts quilts. I use Kona Snow a lot for applique, but have to say that both Cardinal and Tomato make my mouth water!

Thanks for the opportunity.

My favorite Kona color to use is Kona Snow. It goes so well with all the 30's repros I love so much. Boring, I know, but it does work so well!

Really my favorite solid is white...because it allows for so much movement in all the other fabrics...but I'm not sure if white is a color...so my next favorite is aqua...love how it reminds me of the ocean and the sky...and it plays well with others!

Stacy said...

I recently made a baby quilt with the Robert Kaufman blue fat quarter bundle, it came out so pretty. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I love orange! So any orange or a range is fun to work with, but greys are fun too when mixing up w/ orang. Thanks for a fabulous giveaway.

Kona Tomato! Love Red! Thanks for the blog post and chance to win some wonderful prizes.

Doreen K. said...

I just finished using black in an art quilt. But teal is one of my favorite colors.

Jennifer said...

i never remember the names of the kona colors-- i don't even bother looking at the labels on the bolt. if it's a good color, i just go with it.

i think my favorite solid color to work with is gray in all it's variations. the ladies at the quilt shop joke with me when i go in there; they always tell me i should probably add a little gray.

as of this second, i have about 12 fat quarters of various solid grays in my drawer, just waiting to turn into something perfect. we'll see what it becomes!

generous giveaway; thanks for the chance to win!

Gretchen said...

Great post! I am lovin' this blog tour. My favorite solid is cool light gray (gray with a touch of blue or purple or sage green. In Kona solids, I love Ash. Thanks for the great giveaway!

Love this interview! I guess I would have to say I would like to work with solid blues. I just think blue is so calming! Thanks so much for a chance to win these goodies!

corina said...

I've only worked with Kona black so far. It is the blackest of blacks and so easy to sew with. I've used it as is, bleached out with a bleach pen, stamped with acrylics and stencilled on with paintsticks with excellent results. Would love to make a quilt with Kona cactus and coal.

Unknown said...

My favorite is Kona Snow. I like brights and bright prints and the white space makes them clean and modern and "livable".

Debbie Cook said...

Great post, and thanks for hosting the interview and give-away. I'm really only starting to look at solids in quilts and have been really liking all the solid whites I'm seeing from the modern quilters, so I'm picking white. But my true favorite color is green. And that's what's up next for a quilt for me - white with green.

Carla said...

I stock up on Kona white.....it makes every color sing!

Anonymous said...

I've just started quilting and I'm making a blue/brown quilt for my king size bed, but my favorite color is purple and I look forward to making a quilt with that one day.

Stephanie said...

I love the aqua but I think my favorite would be kona coal. I think it makes everything its paired with look gorgeous - that's why its my favorite!

kpitmv said...

Wow My favorite color is blue. Any shade of blue. I love blue, blue, blue.

Unknown said...

I am somewhat a newbie at sewing, and just getting started in quilting. I have never done anything in solids, but I already know that my first quilt will be done with blue colors. I just love the calming, relaxing effect of different blues. The aqua blues remind me of vacationing in the Caribbean, and the baby blues and sky blues remind me of my sweet baby boy. I hope I win!

Reading each of the blog tour interviews has been a lot of fun. Thank you for hosting, and sponsors for the prizes. My favorite solid color is turquoise - turquoise solids ends up as borders and bindings on most of my quilts.
