About Wendy Ladd & The Fabric Quarter
WHAT TYPES OF FABRICS AND DESIGNERS DOES YOUR SHOP CARRY?
HOW DO YOU SELECT YOUR FABRICS?
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS CRAZY BUSINESS?
WHAT DO YOU WANT CUSTOMERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU AND YOUR SHOP?
Thanks Wendy!
I love when she said "We only buy it IF we love it!" I think that is a great way to choose the items for a shop or for a personal stash. We all know we have much more fun sewing when we really love the fabric we are working with!
About Wendy Ladd & The Fabric Quarter
We carry an eclectic blend of contemporary quilting fabrics that have an edgy flair - featuring today’s top fabric designers and manufacturers. We closely follow the quilting blogesphere so that we can stay current with the upcoming design and color trends.
Today’s contemporary quilting fabrics present a wide variety of “big color” and big print themes to sophisticated muted blue, brown and gray tones you see in the environment. We try to balance the color spectrum in the collections we select while staying focused on the contemporary and modern collections.
We also stocks a large selection of Kona Cotton solids and RJR Cotton Supreme solids. We carry a wide variety of basics, blenders, and tonal fabrics to to accompany any project.
Our philosophy is simple: We only buy it IF we love it! When I only "like it" and can pass it up, chances are good that others will feel the same way. Its a philosophy that my grandmother taught me when I was very young and helps me stay on target. Being true to this philosophy helps me make good, strong choices, and select fabrics that you'll want to look at for years to come.
My background is in business management and marketing. I have worked for high-tech and online software companies for years offering marketing, web-related production and creative art direction services. Design and art has always been my passion. When I started sewing I fell in love with the business of fabric, and immediately felt a draw to using my business skills to start a business. It was a little random but being a Gemini, I loved the adventure. Quilting, sewing and knitting run in my family so its really not as crazy as it seems for me to be drawn quilting.
Customer service is a number one priority for us. Having had a retail shop, I understand that while shopping online is easy, it lacks personal interaction and the excitement that comes with selecting fabric in person. Our customers can call us and discuss projects and possible options, and we'll help with making the right choice for their work. Sometimes that means doing research online with the customer, and sometimes its just helping them choose a pattern or getting over a color choice. We also have very competitive prices and add a free gift to every order. We want to create loyalty and share in the happiness that quilting brings our customers.
I love when she said "We only buy it IF we love it!" I think that is a great way to choose the items for a shop or for a personal stash. We all know we have much more fun sewing when we really love the fabric we are working with!

Hi JB! I spend almost everyday at the Longarm!! I currently started teaching a group of friends and their daughters, mine included! We have named it the SEW CLUB! They are all excited to learn my craft! I wish I had more time for piecing and designing, maybe this summer!! I love the inspiration you share! Too bad I need sleep, or I would sit in front of my sewing machine, when the Longarm is at rest! LOL FYI! I have shared your link with my Sew Club! and I will share The Fat Quarter as well! Have a Wonderfully Creative Day!

I've "liked" them on FB for awhile, now.
I haven't seen this shop before, so I'm excited to go explore. I love Magnolia Lane, or anything Laura Gunn for that matter.
I'm retired but still very busy. My Dad always said he didn't know how he ever had time to work. This is what I do each week - I teach Tai Chi and QiGong, I work P/T at B&N, I read 2-3 books, and I quilt. I just make time for everything.
I signed up for the newsletter! Thanks for the give away!
I find my craftytime in he evening when the youngest one is in bed and on the way to gymnastics and playgrounds waiting for my son.
I squeeze in quilting time by sewing when my baby girl is napping. It might only give me a few minutes but it can give me my sanity back. Thanks for the great giveaway those fabrics are great!
I just signed up for the newsletter! Loved their site!

I have no idea how I find the time to craft! Mainly it's by ignoring the cleaning/cooking/washing...

I sew at night while watching tv. I also carry some handwork with me most of the time.
I 'like'd the Fabric Quarter on FB :)
I have gone to your Facebook page and liked The Fabric Quarter.
Find the time to be crafty... hmmm - I don't! I would like to find the time when my kids are sleeping, but it seems there is always dishes to be done, floors to be cleaned, stuff to be tidied.
I don't find enough time to sew or craft! Mostly I do it while not cleaning the house as I should! and when I need to relax from the demands of work and life.
I "liked" them on Facebook.
I love to quilt and since I am newly retired I have lots of time to quilt. I go to 6 quilt retreats a year.. 3 that are 4 days and 3 that are 3 days. I also belong to a small quilting group. Thanks for the opportunity to win this wonderful fabric.
I find the time to craft whenever there is a free moment between family. Some days I can quilt all day but others just in the evening when son is in bed.

Hey Julie...I about passed out when I saw the magnolia lane fabric...I LOVE it so much! I work part-time, so have free time during the day to craft & create...especially to sew. Thank you!!
I make time to be crafty at night! Once my husband goes to bed I venture to the sewing room!
I am new to quilting and I started doing it because I found that I had TOO MUCH time on my hands. My kids are leaving the nest so fast my head is spinning. It occurred to me that I had better find a hobby or I might go crazy! Quilting has been the perfect fit!
I already signed up for The Fabric Quarter's newsletter. This is a great shop!
I find time to sew by forcing myself to leave my laptop alone! LOL! Thanks for the opportunity to win.=)
I find time to be crafty while everyone else is watching TV at night.
I "Liked" Fat Quarter on Facebook.
When I get up in the morning I like to start my day with a few minutes (even if it's 5 mins.) of sewing. It makes me feel good to begin that way and it's worth getting up a little earlier.
signed up for news!
How do I squeeze in time to quilt...the three day weekends are the best time for me but otherwise I usually quilt on the weekends. I love it when I have binding to do because I can watch TV while hand sewing!
I'm pre-menopausal, therefore, have insomnia - so I sew in the wee hours of the morning, that's how I "find" the time to quilt :-)
I find time to sew by having a (small!) sewing room that always has a project available to work on whenever I have a few minutes to spare. :)
Making time for quilting? I work from home and am very fortunate that I can sew and quilt in between projects. I would love to be "working" on quilting. Time will tell ... =)
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win. Good luck to all!

I find the time to sew either by ignoring other things that need to be done. :) Or, I have my girls bring their schoolwork into my sewing room and sew while they learn.
I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old, so finding time to craft is pretty hard, especially since hubby is a medical resident and works long hours; when he's home, we spend time together. Most of my crafting is done in the early morning while the boys are still asleep, during naptime if they sleep at the same time, or nights that hubby is on call at the hospital.
When I get the chance to craft, I seize it, forsaking all other household duties like laundry and dishes! :)

I try to make time everyday to go into the studio - even if it is just to look at my current projects. I reward myself for the other chores that I do all day such as cleaning and laundry.

I tweeted too - still working on learning how to do this...
And I liked them on facebook.
And, lastly, I frequently sew at night, which is probably why I am tired every morning, but that is when the house is quiet!

How do I squeeze in time? I go to my sewing room and hole up for the day. Generally it's only on Sundays. For other hobbies, I just go with the flow - whenever the mood strikes me. Sometimes it's 10pm on a work night and I only have an hour but I'll take it!
I find time to sew by snatching a few minutes here or there -- maybe I'll pin a few things one night, sew and press them the next, etc. Eventually it all gets done, and it adds a few fun minutes into every day!
I find time to be crafty when my 20 month old lays down for his nap...and at night when both he and my husband are snoring away....sometimes on the weekend or when my hubby gets home from work (and there is something I really want to do) I'll ask him to watch the baby....but I try to make sure we have family time too, since my husband is usually gone for at least 14 hours a day and is in bed by 9:30!!
I'm retired, but still have problems finding time to sew. I spend way to much time on the computer.
Sometimes I set a timer and get up and go sew a while when it goes off....silly me.

I squeeze time into sew after I put my 5 year old to sleep at night. I usually don't watch much TV, just sew till bedtime.

I try to get my crafting in whenever I can. A few moments here and there in between everything else. I also don't watch TV so that helps a bit!
Time for crafting - no children at home, no grandchildren live nearby, I retired early and have plenty of time!

I love that you only buy what you love. That's the way it should be. How do I find time to craft? I guess it's the bee's that I'm in that put me on a time line. And along the way I just happen to stay in my room and get a few more things done. It's a good excuse.
I find it helps me be able to sew the next day when I take some time at night (usually in front of the TV) to do prep work, like cutting or ironing.
the only way i squeeze in crafting is to try to sew while my kids play in the room with me. we keep a big bin of wooden blocks and a small bin of fabric scraps there. they love snipping them into tiny pieces!

I craft while my husband plays video games after the child is in bed. Some women are annoyed with men who like to play video games but for me, it means I can have fun, too! :)

I signed up for the newsletter. What a great store.
And how do I find time for quilting? Well, my dust bunnies have names - does that tell you anything? I do most of my quilting while my granddaughter is napping or in preschool, which is also prime cleaning time! But never fear - I try to clean on the weekends, and I have my sewing buddies over once a month so the house definitely gets cleaned then!
I liked them on Facebook!

I make time to craft by sacrificing on sleep. :) Not all the time. Really, I just pick a day and make sure everyone understands it's a ME day.
I usually am only able to "find" time to sew and craft on the weekends ... and sometimes during the week I can snag 15-20 minutes on a couple of evenings if I'm lucky.
I manage to avoid housework/shopping/cooking to get crafty time! Works for me!

These are beautiful fabrics! Thanks for offering us such a generous selection.
As for time for being crafty, some of my professors let me knit in class, and I work on a sewing project whenever I need to unwind a little. I make myself take breaks!

I try to find at least a little time every day to do something in the sewing room. I long for the whole-day sewing marathons but still rejoice in the sneaky-fifteen-minutes that I can usually find!
Just posted it on my blog...and thank you for this opportunity....
I try and squeeze in minutes here and there during my afternoons after work. Somedays it's no time, but some days I get a chance to spend a few hours. I figure even if I'm just sewing together a block...it's one more toward the goal!
I have signed up for the Fabric Quarter newsletter. How nice they give your readers a discount. Kathie L in Allentown
I'm retired, so I have plenty of time for crafts since that's what I love to do. It's the housework I have to work to find time to do. For that, I set the timer for 1/2 hour, go for broke, then return to the fun.
Already getting the newsletter (might as well get "credit" for it here!)I am already a customer and big fan of Fabric Quarter!
I am a FQ "liker" on Facebook too. Hi Wendy!
Most of my sewing time is little bits of time between housework, caring for my children etc. I also sew in the evenings when my kids are in bed.
Finding time to sew: I claimed a loft area in my house for my art/sewing room. Now everything is within reach-- reducing set-up and clean-up time has made it souch easier to grab 15 minutes here and there.
I have singed up for the newsletter.
My friends think I'm insane but I like to get up half an hour or so earlier than I need to so once I'm all ready for work & had my breakfast, made my pack-up etc, I have a little bit of time to sew, or whatever I'm working on at that time. I love this little bit of peace and calm of crafting in the morning, It's like my meditation that sets me up for the day. x
I've also liked her facebook page.

I have 3 teenagers at home. When they are at school which is sometimes not too log a read about quilting. At evenings a little (half an hour, a day). It's always to little.

I get up at 5 in the morning and have an hour to sew before the day starts
I just have to make the time. It isn't easy. I try to do a little each day though with the nice weather we've been having, even that is hard. Of course, reading all these blogs and entering giveaways eats up a lot of time though it does keep me motivated to keep sewing. There just isn't time to do everything.
If I don't find time, I get grumpy. It's important to create every day! I squeeze it in, even if it's just for 10 minutes.

I find time to sew, quilt, and be creative in the evenings and the weekends. I work all day during the week but I love quilting as a creative outlet! You will typically find me in my sewing room from 9pm till midnight most days!

Right now its hard to find time to craft/quilt as I am in grad school but will be finished in April and have a list of projects lined up. I squeeze in a hour or two a week though for my sanity.
